My First COB

Hey, I just got a early 60's Slingerland Gene Krupa signature COB 10 lug snare. I just recently found out what a COB was. How good is this snare compared to other COB's?

COB=Chrome Over Brass

Brass is heavy geoff so it should weigh quite a bit too compared to a steel one.

Failing to notice if its a COB from randys suggestion, i.e looking for the distintive gold color on the lip, the other classic way is to remove a lug and check the screw holes for the coloring. if its plated you might have to file a small part in the hole to remove the chrome. (pain in the a$$ aint it!)

thx guys - it's steel. it's a good bit heavier than my 70s Ludwig, but when i look thru the holes that held the muffler thingie, it's all steel, no brass.

Not saying it is jeff but if its shiny it could be the chrome plating and not the shell metal.

Thats why some people say, Take a small file in the hole and file a small piece away to see whats underneath, if its still silver its steel.
(400 wouldnt be its alu or brass). But as its with you and you can see what i cant, you're the best judge of what it is or isnt.
